DAS SPAGHETTI-SIEB - THE SPAGHETTI SIEVE

In Italien war früher als in manchen anderen europäischen Ländern marktwirtschaftlich orientiertes Privatfernsehen üblich.

In den Nachtstunden boten manche private Fernsehsender verschlüsselte Programme an, die nur für Erwachsene geeignet waren. Um diese ansehen zu können, mußte man beim Sender gegen teure Gebühr ein Zusatzgerät zum Fernseher mieten.

Findige Italiener fanden jedoch heraus, daß man die Programme auch ohne teures Zusatzgerät sehen konnte:
man mußte lediglich ein Spaghetti-Nudel-Sieb, das ohnehin in jedem Haushalt vorhanden ist, sehr rasch mit der Hand vor dem Auge auf- und abbewegen, und schon sah man anstelle der vielen verschwommenen Linien ein klares Fernsehbild des dargebotenenen Programms.

THE SPAGHETTI SIEVE

In Italy pay TV with free enterprise orientation was introduced earlier than in some other European countries.

At night many private TV stations offered encoded programs which were only suitable for adults. In order to watch these programs, an extra tool for the TV set had to be rented from the stations on payment of expensive fees.

However, smart Italians found out that the programs could also be watched without an expensive extra tool:
One only had to move a spaghetti sieve, which could be found in any household anyway, very quickly up and down in front of the eyes and instead of the many fuzzy lines one could watch a clear picture of the presented program.
